Do you need a Chase Top?

Does your Chimney Top look like this?

Chase Tops prevent rain, branches, leaves, snow, raccoons, chipmunks, bats and birds. Without a cap, you have a hole in your roof. Besides being unsightly, the rust stains on the chimney chase tells us that most likely water is penetrating the top of your chimney. After a period of time the floor under the fireplace can also rot away. Our Chase Tops are attractive, durable and custom made to fit snugly over your chimney chase to offer years of protection from the elements.

Leaky, Rusted and Corroded Chase Tops are possible hazards on Pre-Fabricated Metal Fireplaces. Above picture shows a rusty 15-20 year old galvanized chase top in need of replacement, the "after picture" to the left shows a Stainless Steel replacement chase top. Our Chase tops are custom made of Stainless Steel which will prevent unsightly rust stains and stop possible hazards. Replacement Galvanized Chase Tops are also available.

Over the years most pre-fab chimneys metal covers start to rust due to rain, ice and snow that sits on the metal for extended periods. Along the way pine straw and leaves land  on top as well. When this material start to decay it creates a very acidic condition that eats the galvanized coating off the metal.

Most chase tops are improperly installed from the start. They are made from thin galvanized sheet metal with no supports installed under the cover to hold up the large cap. This creates a instant pool for water and leaves to fall in starting the rusting  process at the first rain.. Some covers have nail holes in the chase cover that eventfully starts to leak when the old caulking gets hard and cracks.

It can take as little as 5 years of this condition before you very see rust running down the side of your chimney. Eventually the metal starts to pit allowing water to drip inside the chimney structure. You may hear the dripping sounds sometimes when its quiet in the home, after a rain. When you see the rust stains it time to replace the top SOON! That's where we come in...

We can replace the chase cover using stainless steel instead of the regular galvanized metal that will rust. We put two screws in top to hold black cap in place.  The holes are filled with marine grade silicon to prevent leaks. We drill 2-3 holes in each long side flange about  18 inches from each end and install stainless steel screws to hold cover in place. The tops have cross breaking to create a dome effect preventing water from standing on the top. Overall this is a better system for a reasonable price.
